Free public access computers are available at the State Library of Queensland's South Bank building.

Internet Access Policy

To use the internet, you must agree to the SLQ Internet Public Use Policy which is available within the Public Access Computer Facilities policy document.

Wireless internet access

There are wireless access points on all public levels where you can bring in your own laptop or notebook. No login is required. Laptops require a standard wireless LAN card with 802.11b/g protocols, and need to be configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically".

Computer locations

Infozone (level 1)

  • No membership card required, no bookings required
  • Stand-up computers - time limited to 30 minutes
  • Sit-down computers - time limited to 60 minutes
  • Access to
    • the SLQ website, including catalogues and databases
    • the internet
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint

State Reference Library (levels 2-3)

Full access computers

  • 3 hours access per day
  • Log in with your membership card
  • Access to
    • the SLQ website, including catalogues and databases
    • the internet
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Adaptive software for people with visual impairment

e-Collections computers

  • Instant access to thousands of online journals, magazines, newspapers and other sources
  • Available any time during opening hours No bookings required

Booking a computer

Please note:
All equipment (computers, printers, photocopiers, etc) will be turned off 15 minutes prior to closing time.

Onsite computers can be booked up to seven days in advance:

Public computers on levels 2 - 3 can be booked online, or at a PC booking station using your membership card.

Printing

Print/copy rooms are located on each level. Use your membership card to activate and pay for copying.

Saving data

There are different ways to save data including:

  • USB - you can save directly to your USB
  • CD/DVD - you can save directly to a CD/DVD.
  • Floppy disc - there are no internal floppy drives, however you can borrow a portable floppy drive from staff at the information desk.

Uploading and downloading

Documents, spreadsheets and powerpoints may be uploaded or downloaded. Uploading or downloading of software is not permitted.
