Using news for research - a media literacy workshop (Year 7 to 12)
To support media and information literacy, State Library invites you and your students to explore strategies for using news effectively as an information source in research assessments.
This workshop will equip students with media literacy skills to navigate misinformation and fake news. Students will be enabled to access, critically evaluate, and use quality news sources that provide diverse perspectives for their research assessments.
Featuring State Library’s extensive news archives – spanning historical and contemporary articles from thousands of local, national, and international newspapers and magazines – students will discover how these archives serve as a powerful resource for research projects across all subject areas.
Workshop notes:
- Students will need access to a laptop/computer to participate in this workshop.
- Students will be asked to create a free State Library membership to maximise their experience and gain full access to the library’s resources.
- This free, 40 minute workshop is open to all schools and will be live-streamed via Microsoft Teams.
