Using news for research - a media literacy workshop (Year 7 to 12)
To support media and information literacy, State Library invites you and your students to explore strategies for using news effectively as an information source in research assessments.
State Library provides a range of comprehensive news archives offering both historical and contemporary news articles from hundreds of local, national and international newspapers and magazines.
News archives are a powerful information source for student research projects across all subject areas. This workshop will teach students media literacy skills to help them navigate the proliferation of misinformation and fake news to find quality news sources. Students will develop their skills in accessing, critically evaluating and using news sources that offer a variety of perspectives on topics they are researching for their assessments.
Don't miss this opportunity to help cultivate these essential media literacy skills in your students!
Workshop notes:
- Students will need access to a laptop to participate in this workshop.
- This free, 45-minute workshop is open to all schools and will be live-streamed via Microsoft Teams.
