Portrait of an artist is a event series that showcases the interviews from the James C Sourris AM Collection. Through these live, in conversation interviews audiences can connect more deeply to the artist's personality, life story and work.

Our second Portrait of an artist event will profile the life and art of iconic Queensland artist and poet, the late Madonna Staunton OAM. Madonna was a renowned artist of national significance who made important contributions to Australian Modernism over five decades. She was known for delicate collage and small contemplative works on paper as well as larger format abstract painting later in her career.

Join us for this special event featuring a panel discussion between Josh Milani from Milani Gallery, Brisbane Poet and Artist Nathan Shepherdson, and Peta Rake, a Curator at University of Queensland Art Museum, as they focus on Madonna’s career and legacy.
