Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition at The Edge

From May to June, The Edge will showcase the Nikon-Walkley Press Photography Exhibition featuring the photographic works of finalists from the 2024 Walkley Awards for Excellence in Photojournalism. More than 3000 images were entered, across news and sport, portraiture and visual essays. In selecting the three finalists for each category, the Walkley photography judges looked for newsworthiness, impact, creativity and technical skill.

This exhibition highlights contemporary news events and issues, from Bondi and Birdsville to Ukraine, Uganda and the USA. The photojournalists negotiated conflict zones and protests, challenging conditions, social stigma and shame. They visualised and humanised complicated concepts such as climate change and gender identity. And with their technical mastery, expertise and aesthetic instincts, they have produced some of the most outstanding images of the year.

These pictures speak volumes. Some encapsulate a complex story in a single frame. From fleeting moments, captured in a split second, to images taken after months of research and trust-building, photographs such as these have the power to depict a subject’s inner world and express it through their setting. The Walkley photographic awards are part of the highest accolades in Australian news reporting and we are proud to present this across The Edge entry screens. Swing by for captivating storytelling and powerful photographic essays.
