A night by the fire: Frontier Wars with Boe Spearim
For first event of our 2023 series we are joined by Boe Spearim as he shares learnings of the Frontier Wars in Queensland.
As the nights gets cooler and the sun starts to set earlier, kuril dhagun invite you to join us by the fire of our Talking circle as we kick off the 2023 Night by the fire series. This year’s series aims to provide a safe space for First Nations people to discuss historical and contemporary topics and ensure that First Nations' experiences and knowledge take the forefront in the true telling of these topics and spaces.
About our guest:
Boe Spearim is a Kooma, Murawarii and Gamilaraay, podcaster and activist born in western Sydney and raised on the Southside of Brisbane.
Boe has been involved in community radio since 2012 volunteering at 4ZZZ on the Indigi Briz program then later studying a cert 3 in media broadcasting at 98.9fm where Boe found employment after leaving the station. Coming back in 2017, Boe began hosting Let’s Talk, a talkback program that discusses issues that impact First Nations people, as well as creating and hosting a podcast called Frontier War Stories that has over one hundred and sixty thousand downloads. The podcast is dedicated to truth-telling about a side of Australia that has been left out of the history books.
Before finding his passion in radio Boe got involved in activism at the Brisbane Aboriginal Sovereign Embassy which was established in March 2012 in Musgrave Park and is a current member of (WAR) Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance.
