Mob Gathering International Mother Language Day
This event will bring together respected First Nations artists, language custodians, and community members to share and reflect on the richness of our Mother Languages. We are honoured to welcome Western Gugu Yalanji and Birri Gubba songman Jungaji (Troy Brady) and Torres Strait Islander elder and linguist Uncle Brian Whap, who will share their knowledge, stories, and practices in language—through song, poetry, weaving, and more.
This is a space for our mob to come together, sit, yarn, and enjoy a light lunch as we continue important conversations about how language is carried forward in ways that honour community values and aspirations.
Why we celebrate
- Honour Language Protectors: Recognising the efforts of those who safeguard their languages.
- Promote Multilingualism: Encouraging the protection and use of multiple languages while raising awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Preserve Cultural Heritage: Keeping cultural traditions and languages alive.
