Meet 'Charlie' - your AI guide to World War I (Year 9)
Unlock the stories and insights of World War I, one of the most pivotal eras in Australian history, with the help of ‘Charlie’, State Library’s AI-driven Virtual Veteran chatbot.
This workshop provides a positive experience for students to use AI in a range of fun, hands-on activities. They will explore the experiences of Australians who served and of citizens on the home front during this tumultuous era.
Workshop notes:
- All participants will receive a worksheet to help them continue exploring with ‘Charlie’ after the workshop.
- Students will need access to a laptop/computer/tablet, individually or in small groups, to participate.
- This free, 40 minute workshop is live-streamed via Microsoft Teams and open to all schools.
- This workshop aligns with the Australian Curriculum v9.0, History 7-10, Year 9 content descriptions (AC9HH9S02), (AC9HH9S03), (AC9HH9S04), (AC9HH9S06) and (ACHH9S08).
About Virtual Veterans
Virtual Veterans is an innovative venture bringing World War I history to life, using AI techniques to guide students through the rich collections and resources of State Library, Trove, and the Australian War Memorial. Student can access personal letters, diaries, newspaper articles from 1914 to 1918, and other first-hand accounts from the Great War.
