Visit Anzac Square & Memorial Galleries between Monday 15 August and Sunday 4 September to view the breathtaking Don Ross mosaic, revealed to coincide with the return of Brisbane Open House 2022.
This emotive artwork is made up of an astounding 140,000 small pieces of hand cut Smalti Tessera (Venetian glass) tiles and is a tribute to the men and women who served in World War II. Designed by the late Don Ross, a key figure in Brisbane's arts and crafts scene for the entire second half of the 20th century, it took over two years to complete.
The memorial was originally situated at the RSL Headquarters at Anzac House in Wickham Terrance, as part of their Shrine of Remembrance. In 1984, the RSL and the Shrine of Memories relocated to the World War II Memorial Gallery at Anzac Square where the mosaic was painstakingly reinstalled.
Only revealed twice a year, don’t miss your opportunity to see this artwork in person. During your visit our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be available to answer any questions you might have.
Anzac Square Memorial Galleries is located at 285 Ann Street, Brisbane. Entry is free, through the double brass doors located beneath the Shrine of Remembrance.
