Explore primary sources from World War II (Year 10)

State Library’s extensive World War II collection offers a unique opportunity for students to delve into the past using primary sources. In this interactive workshop, students will engage with State Library collection items that reveal the stories of Queenslanders involved in the war effort in Europe, the Pacific and on the home front.

Students will be shown how to navigate State Library’s One Search catalogue to access ebooks, academic databases, and journals. They will also learn how to find historical photographs, maps, propaganda, newspaper articles, letters and diaries to support completion of their research assessments and deepen their understanding of World War II.

To extend their learning, students will receive a research guide to support their continued study of World War II using State Library's collections.

Workshop notes:

  • Students will need access to a laptop/computer to participate in this workshop.
  • Students will be asked to create a free State Library membership to maximise their experience and gain full access to the library’s resources.
  • This free, 40 minute workshop is open to all schools and will be live-streamed via Microsoft Teams.
  • This workshop aligns with the Australian Curriculum v9.0, History 7-10, Year 10 content descriptions (AC9HH10S02), (AC9HH10S03), (AC9HH10S04), (AC9HH10S06) and (ACHH10S08).
