Explore primary sources from the Ancient World (Year 7)

Immerse your students in the wonders of the ancient world with this extraordinary opportunity to explore State Library’s collections from Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Highlights include rare and unique artefacts such as stone and marble tablets, ostraka, papyrus and even a mummy bandage.

Students will also learn how to locate and evaluate primary and secondary sources for historical inquiry, assess their accuracy and relevance as evidence, and utilise State Library's information collections to deepen their understanding of ancient civilisations through contemporary research.

To extend their learning, students will receive a research guide to support their continued studies in connection to the Australian Curriculum depth study you are teaching in your class.

Workshop notes:

  • Students will need access to a laptop/computer to participate in this workshop.
  • Students will be asked to create a free State Library membership to maximise their experience and gain full access to the library’s resources.
