The Corner Big Day Out

Get ready for a BIG day of free play, creativity, and entertainment for the whole family.

On 26 April State Library of Queensland will transform into a playground packed with exciting activities and performances for children aged 0-10. Best of all? All the fun is free!

Get your groove on with Australia's much-loved children’s entertainer, singer, and TV host. Sing along to her catchy tunes and enjoy her warm performance that has made her a household name in children's entertainment.

Meet the eco-warriors and award-winning musicians, dirtgirl and scrapboy, who bring their love for nature, messages of sustainability and fun to the stage. This duo will inspire young minds through interactive music, environmental adventures and signature garden-party vibes.

Activity: Common People Dance Project

11:50 am–12:10 pm, Knowledge Walk stage
Shake it with the Common People Dance Project! This fun, inclusive dance activation invites everyone to move and groove, whether you're a seasoned dancer or just up for a good time. Come celebrate the joy of dance.

Other activities include:

  • Performance: Aunty Sharron mirii Bell, 10:20–10:50 am, Knowledge Walk stage: Join Aunty Sharron as she takes us all on a musical song and dance journey. Together, we will respectfully acknowledge the Sovereign Custodians, Elders and Country before we begin a fun-filled, interactive live concert for all ages.
     
  • Book readings: Sophie Beer, Tylissa Elisara and Cheryl Leavy, various times, across State Library: It wouldn't be a children's library festival without a story time!
     
  • Workshop: Make and Meld, Castanet creatures, 10:30–12 noon, kuril dhagun: This workshop gives young people an opportunity to use real woodworking tools as they build and then decorate their own musical creature castanet!
     
  • Workshop: Cultural Collaboration, Art and sound, 12:30–2 pm, kuril dhagun: In this hands-on session, you’ll explore the rich history of Indigenous symbols while learning the art of lino printing.
     
  • The Corner big day of play, 10 am–2 pm, The Corner: It's our day and everyone's invited to come and enjoy Pasifika music with Tui n Friends, all day creative play and party hat making.
     
  • Activity: Tree of Hope, Interactive installation, 10 am–2 pm, The Parlour: Inspired by the theme of hope for Out of the Box Festival 2025, QPAC invites children across Queensland to reflect on what hope means to them.
     
  • Performance and workshop: Circa Academy, various times, Billboard Lawn: Catch Circa Academy up close at The Corner Big Day Out. Learn new skills, try hula-hooping, juggling and more.
     
  • Workshop: Preservation, Paper making, 10 am–2 pm, The Courtyard: Learn about the art of preserving Queensland’s history, and take home your own handmade paper with the help of our Preservations team.
     
  • Activity: Annika Strand, Xtra special, 10 am–2 pm, Arcade: Annika invites families, carers and young people to gently challenge how we view difference as we explore the idea of specialness and what makes us special.
     
  • Workshop: Mini curator, 12 noon–2 pm, Infozone: What makes Queensland special for you? Pop on a pair of gloves and join our curation team to design a display that celebrates our home.
     
  • Performance and workshop: Rivercity Steel Bands, 10 am–1:40 pm, River Deck: Get into the rhythm with the steel drum performances and workshops and let the music move you, also featuring a showcase from the Mini Rivers Steel Band children's group.
     
  • Workshop: Digital story fun, 10 am–12 noon, Infozone: Calling all junior aspiring storytellers! Learn how to sketch and compose digital scenes using iPads and bring them to life using the app TagTool.
     
  • Food and drinks – Tasty treats and refreshing drinks from our visiting food trucks and Library Cafe to fuel your day of play.
