This Remembrance Day join us for a free webinar about Black Diggers.
The webinar provides an opportunity to reflect on the service of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women in Australia’s Defence Forces. The session will explore the lack of recognition of Aboriginal soldiers following WW1 and the contemporary nature of remembering through events such as the Indigenous Diggers Remembrance Service held at the Jebbribillum Bora Ground, Burleigh Heads.
Desmond Crump, Indigenous Languages Coordinator, supported State LIbrary's Q ANZAC 100 project through research of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in WW1. A feature of the session will be the State Library Indigenous Soldiers Symposium Panel [22 June 2018] which featured discussions on a range of topics, with a focus on remembrance.
- Philippa Scarlett, Historian
- Michael Bell, Indigenous Liaison Officer, Australian War Memorial
- Uncle Eric Law AM, Ration Shed Museum, Vietnam Vet and Cherbourg Elder
- Des Crump, State Library of Queensland
