Anzac Day 2025 Brisbane itinerary

Anzac Day, which began in Brisbane in 1916 to commemorate the fallen of Gallipoli, is one of Australia’s most sacred days. It is an occasion to remember and honour Australian men and women who have served during periods of conflict and peace, many of whom have paid with their wellbeing or lives. While ceremonies and traditions initially varied, Anzac Day now maintains several well-established traditions: a gunshot breakfast, dawn service and parade.

If you are in Brisbane this year, you can find information on how to attend these events, and galleries dedicated to Anzac history, below.

  • Varying times, Gunfire breakfast
A long-held Anzac Day tradition, the gunfire breakfast originates from rum-laced tea or coffee partaken by British, Australian, and New Zealand troops on the eve of battle. Today, the tradition may also be accompanied by a cooked breakfast. Usually held shortly before or after the Dawn Service at RSL clubs, the breakfast allows veterans and the community to connect, share experiences, and pay tribute to those who served.
