In 2023, State Library is offering an exciting range of onsite and online programs for students of all ages, no matter where they are in Queensland!

Session one: inspire your students

During this 30-minute session, State Library staff will cover a range of free, bookable offers such as the Research Experience – a personalised opportunity for students to utilise State Library resources to complete class assignments and assessments. Staff will explore opportunities for students to engage with State Library systems and spaces in onsite self-guided, teacher led tours, supported by curriculum aligned learning resources, as well as opportunities to delve deeper into the history of WWI, WWII and post 1945 at Anzac Square & Memorial Galleries via guided tours and the 2023 Anzac Day Commemorative Service school program.

This session will also present online possibilities for students to engage with collection items, resources and research strategies broadcast live into your classroom via Live at the Library. Lastly we will cover free, teacher reviewed, classroom ready resources linking the Australian Curriculum to State Library collection items via Curriculum Connect, as well as upcoming Professional Development sessions to incorporate world-class research and learning strategies into teaching art, history and culture!

Registered attendees will be sent a certificate of attendance in support of their Professional Development practice.

Session two: inspire your students

As Queensland’s leading research library, State Library is best placed to provide students with access to world class scholarly information for completing their QCAA research-based internal assessments whether visiting onsite, at school or at home.

This session takes teachers on a deeper dive into using State Library’s One Search catalogue and will provide a more detailed overview of the extensive suite of national and international journals, databases, ebooks, encyclopaedias', newspaper archives, and engaging collection of thousands of historical images, letters, artworks, diaries and artefacts to interrogate as primary sources.

In this interactive, live-streamed experience, State Library staff will introduce you to the most useful resources for students and provide strategies to help students access information effectively through State Library’s catalogue. This experience includes a practical activity that will teach participants how to use keywords, filters and tags to discover, access and download valuable collection items from State Library for teaching and learning in their subject areas.

Registered attendees will be sent a certificate of attendance in support of their Professional Development practice.
