The Burdekin Shire is located approx 80kms south of Townsville. The community of the Burdekin Shire is centred on the rich farming land of the Burdekin Delta. The principal towns are the twin towns of Ayr and Home Hill, with smaller centres of Brandon, Giru, Jerona, Alva, Wunjunga, Clare, Millaroo and Dalbeg.

The Burdekin is the largest sugar cane producing area in Australia and boasts the nation's largest water development project - the mighty Burdekin Dam, which is capable of supplying more than 1 million megalitres of water each average year to the Lower Burdekin area.

Service description

ITEMS AVAILABLE FOR LOAN INCLUDE:- Books(including large print and foreign language books), compact discs, DVD’s, magazines, talking books, newspapers, and local history collection.
COMPUTER SERVICES INCLUDE:- Internet and Word-Processing, microfilm and microfiche records for historical use and on-line web catalogue.

CHILDREN’S SERVICES INCLUDE:- children’s story-time, children’s holiday activities including Blink and Wink magazine.

INTER-LIBRARY LOAN SERVICE –to obtain items from other Queensland libraries that the Burdekin Libraries does not stock.

HOUSEBOUND DELIVERY SERVICE- volunteers will deliver items to people who are physically unable to come in to the library.
