How to enter

The 2019 Queensland Literary Awards will open in April.

The guidelines, terms and conditions and frequently asked questions will be available on this page when entries open for 2019. The guidelines will include full details of the 2019 award categories, eligibility criteria and how to enter.

Published book awards

  • Queensland Premier’s Award for a work of State Significance ($25,000)
  • QUT Digital Literature Award ($15,000)
  • The University of Queensland Fiction Book Award ($15,000)
  • The University of Queensland Non-Fiction Book Award ($15,000)
  • Griffith University Children's Book Award ($15,000)
  • Griffith University Young Adult Book Award ($15,000)
  • University of Southern Queensland History Book Award ($10,000)
  • University of Southern Queensland Short Story Collection — Steele Rudd Award ($10,000)
  • Judith Wright Calanthe Award for a Poetry Collection ($10,000)
  • The Courier-Mail People's Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award ($10,000)

Unpublished manuscript awards and development prizes 

  • Queensland Premier's Young Publishers and Writers Awards (two prizes of $12,500)
  • Queensland Writers Fellowships (three $15,000 Fellowships)
  • David Unaipon Award for an Unpublished Indigenous Writer ($15,000 plus publication with UQP)
  • Glendower Award for an Emerging Queensland Writer ($15,000 plus publication with UQP)

To enter a published book:

  1. Check the book meets the category eligibility criteria and was first published between 1 June 2018 and 31 May 2019.
  2. Complete the relevant online entry form (forms will be available once the awards open).
  3. Submit your completed form and pay the $50 nomination fee, if required. 
  4. Post or hand-deliver five copies of your book to the State Library of Queensland at the address provided on the nomination form.

    To enter an unpublished manuscript or submit an application for a development prize:

    1. Check that you meet the category eligibility criteria (you’ll find these in the Guidelines, Terms and Conditions and FAQs, which will be available soon).
    2. Complete the relevant online entry form and upload your manuscript or application (forms will be available once the awards open).
    3. Alternatively, you can post or hand-deliver five copies of your printed manuscript to the State Library of Queensland at the address provided on the nomination form.
