Psychologists, dieticians and mindfulness: The startups behind Australia's esports push

The team at Order esports is on the hunt for a state-of-the art facility for athlete development.

"We want it so we can provide at the highest level, with psychologists, dieticians, mindfulness sessions. All to provide that elite sporting environment," says Order chairman Adrian Giles.

The startup manages ten teams in nine sports. All are video game codes, from League of Legends to Counterstrike.

With 45 contracted athletes on deck, Order is one of countless startups across the globe looking to bank big dollars by creating the ultimate gaming teams to compete for hundreds of thousands in prize money each year.


Their athletes train for six to eight hours a day in their quest to beat thousands of other professionals to win global gaming tournaments.

Australian esports businesses are quietly chipping away at what they believe is a huge money maker still to be unlocked. According to PwC's 2018 global sports survey, the esports world has overtaken soccer for the first time to become the sporting code with the biggest opportunity for revenue growth. Read more
