Learning with siblings
Encouraging older siblings to help you with their younger siblings is a great way to expose little ones to more opportunities for learning language.
Ideas to try
- Ask the older sibling to tell your baby a story at nappy change time. This provides them with another opportunity to hear lots of language.
- Ask older siblings to point out their favourite pictures and talk about each one with their younger sibling. They’ll love being the source of knowledge!
- Sharing favourite rhymes or songs is another great activity big brothers and sisters love to take charge of. It’s wonderful when your younger children can hear favourite rhymes sung over and over again and see the actions.
- Young children can also be creative in coming up with games that keep little ones interested for hours. Playing on the floor together as a family is a great way to help babies explore and learn.
