Home help: Computers can help you share your biggest asset, says Airbnb

Airbnb's head of public policy Brent Thomas believes technology should be used to connect humans instead of replacing them in the hospitality industry.

While the hotel industry has started using robots to displace humans and has argued against significant wages growth for workers, Airbnb says it wants to promote human contact along with fair pay and conditions.

"I don't accept this idea that you embrace technology and the future and therefore leave workers and minimum wage and standards behind," Mr Thomas said.

"Australians are concerned that disruption will mean the end of the fair go and the erosion of gains of workers and the trade unions."

Mr Thomas, who heads policy for Australia and New Zealand, said business, governments, unions and the community were grappling with the impact of disruptive technology and the future of work. He will address the Maurice Blackburn Lawyers Future of Work Forum 2018 in Melbourne on Thursday, which Fairfax Media is partnering.
