Hacks/Hackers May Meetup: Web scraping [event]
By administrator | 11 May 2016
hub4101 is proud to partner with the Brisbane Chapter of Hacks/Hackers, a rapidly expanding international grassroots journalism organization which aims to create a network of journalists (“hacks”) and technologists (“hackers”).
May’s meetup will be on the topic of web scraping - If you’ve been looking to gather data from the web for research, marketing, intelligence gathering or other reasons - this is the session for you!
Web scraping is a technique employed to extract large amounts of data from websites, where the data is extracted and saved to a local file in your computer or to a database so that it can be manipulated as required.
Luke Bacon from the OpenAustralia Foundation will show us the joy of web scraping, a flexible and powerful way to collect data for your projects. Luke will show us how scrapers are the backbone of OAF’s civic hacking projects, and walk though how we can use them in our own projects.
