Come along to Q ANZAC 100 workshops in Stanthorpe!

The next series of workshops will be held in Stanthorpe at the Stanthorpe & District Heritage Museum, 12 High Street, 7th - 9th March. Through these workshops you will gain an appreciation of First World War heritage items, learn about looking after such items and look at ways to share your own or your communities First World War stories. Even if you do not have a particular interest in First World War, the content of this workshop is applicable to all heritage themes. All public library staff and local historical or community organisations are invited to attend these free workshops to gain an understanding of, caring for and sharing our First World War stories.

There are a 3 parts to the workshops, outlined below:

The White Gloves Experience offers a unique opportunity to put on the white gloves for a hands-on look at some of State Library of Queensland’s precious original First World War materials. An SLQ collection expert will guide you through a selection of treasures including letters, diaries and photographs. There is also the opportunity to look at some items from the collection of Queensland State Archives.

Experiencing the First World War collection items first hand

During the Caring for your First World War collections workshop, a SLQ conservator will show you how to care for your First World War and other heritage treasures so they can be preserved for future generations. The content in this workshop is applicable to all heritage items no matter what their age. There is an opportunity to receive some preservation advice on an item if you are able to bring it along to the workshop.

During the Share your precious World War I collections online workshop we will explore various options for getting those untold local stories out into the open so they are not forgotten. One way to do this is through the online platform HistoryPin which allows us to geo-locate these stories for your local area.

These workshops are part of the 2014-18 First World War commemorative period whereby SLQ staff travel to various locations across Queensland presenting workshops which encourage a community connection with the First World War story as part of Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a new generation
