Cider startups like Batlow now taking wine's market share as well as beer's

"The rising popularity of cider has been blamed for a a 1 per cent drop in global wine consumption in 2014, and a former UBS investment banker and MTV Australia marketing chief are among the local entrepreneurs fermenting apples instead of grapes. Rabobank’s Wine Quarterly for the first quarter of 2015 has reported a 1 per cent fall in wine consumption for the first quarter of 2014, with senior beverages analyst Marc Soccio suggesting winemakers are less prepared than beer interests in the fight to defend their ‘share of throat’ from cider." Read more
