AMES

AMES is on-demand English language courses focusing on living, studying, and working in Australia for students and new migrants from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD). State Library currently provides access to two modules: Worldwide English and Living in Australia. These are General English online courses ranging from beginner to intermediate with a focus on work, life, and study

Kinderling

Kinderling is Australia’s most popular kids radio station playing family friendly music, stories and podcasts for children aged 0-9 years. Content is tailored for routines throughout the day including bedtime, playtime, car rides and the “witching hour” and covers a variety of genres and interests - from fables and traditional stories to science-based series, language and cultural explorations around the world, and more. 

A small bilingual section is also included with stories in English and another language such as Arabic, Greek, Mandarin, or Hindi.

QLD cloudLibrary Language Collection

QLD cloudLibrary Language Collection is a collection of ebooks and eaudiobooks in Languages Other Than English (LOTE) on a digital platform.

The platform hosts content in over 25+ Languages for both Adult and Junior readers. These titles are available for all Queensland public libraries, State Library of Queensland and IKC members. 

Getting started

  • Download and launch the cloudLibrary app (Google Play) (Apple App Store)
  • Select your country, region and local council library, then tap next
  • Accept the terms and conditions 
  • Enter your library barcode number and PIN / password

Story Box Library is an online platform of narrated ebooks for children with interactive storytelling features. Content is mainly by Australian and New Zealand authors and narrators. Activity sheets accompanying the stories are useful for home use.

Getting started

  • Select State Library of Queensland

A regularly updated online resource containing a collection of evidence-based databases. Reviews of different treatments feature a Plain Language Summary, with the aim of making the information accessible to everyone. All Australians have free access to the Cochrane Library as a result of the Australian Government funding a national subscription.

GALE Health & Wellness Resource Centre
Provides instant access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials. Includes more than 1000 health/medical journals, hundreds of pamphlets, over 700 health-related videos from partner Healthology, Inc., and articles from 2,200 general interest publications in addition to a broad collection of Gale reference titles. Material contained in this Resource Center is intended for informational purposes only. Available to State Library members. Join here.
