Organisational loans

Cultural organisations that meet State Library's Loans for Exhibition Policy requirements can borrow collections for exhibition.

Any organisation with an exhibition venue with satisfactory security and environmental conditions, appropriate insurance cover, appropriately qualified staff and sound governance arrangements may exhibit State Library material.

If your organisation is interested in borrowing from State Library of Queensland collections for an exhibition, please refer to Loans for Exhibition Policy in the first instance and then contact us.

Current loans

Dalleburra Aboriginal clan protective copper breastplate, ca. 1863-1899

National Museum Australia in Canberra has the Dalleburra Aboriginal clan protective copper breastplate, ca. 1863-1899, TR 1867/364 on loan as part of the Landmarks: People and Places across Australia Gallery.
This collection item is from the Christison Family Papers and Lammermoor Station Records 1857-1989, and has been on loan to National Museum since 2011.

Since 2016 the Charles Cochran-Baillie, 2nd Baron Lamington [Work of Art] 1895, by Robert Duddingstone Herdman.
Acc. 29900 has been on loan to Government House Queensland, Brisbane. The portrait can be viewed when there is an open house or special event at Government house, Brisbane.

Portrait of the Honourable Sir James Cockle.

Honourable Sir James Cockle [Work of Art] ca. 1870, Acc. 5493 is on display among other Queensland Supreme Court judges, on loan to the Supreme Court of Queensland.
You can view the portrait on level 3, QEII Law Courts Building, Banco Court foyer.

Previous loans

Mannequin in a blue dress wearing the John Watts Necklace as seen in the 2014 exhibition A Fine Possession: Jewellery and Identity. The necklace is an 18 carat gold swag necklace with five openwork carved gold hinged pendants.

The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney borrowed the John Watts Necklace from 24 September 2014 to 22 May 2016 for the exhibition A Fine Possession: Jewellery and Identity.

Oil painting of Aboriginal woman by Oscar Fristrom

Aboriginal woman (work of art) and Aborigines, North Queensland (work of art) by Carl Magnus Oscar Fristrom which was on loan to Cairns Art Gallery for the Queen's Land Blak Portraiture-Late 19th Century to the Present exhibition 17 May - 18 August 2019.

GOMA borrowed State Library of Queensland's collection items, Old Brisbane Works of Art 1950s - Drawing for St. Pauls Terrace Shops (Johns Place) and House in West End by Margaret Olley for display in the 'Margaret Olley: A Generous Life' exhibition held from 15 June 2019 - 13 October 2019.

Electro-plated items including folded child's cardigan, 2 garlic bulbs, 4 onions, and a pair of boots in display case.

Selection of items from Magnified memory - new meanings Debra Porch were loaned to UNSW Galleries for the exhibition "Art should make life more interesting than art" : an exhibition of work by Debra Porch. The exhibition ran from 21 June to 7 September 2019.

Museum of Brisbane borrowed the Livid festival : live and vivid under the big top poster from 30 August 2019 - 22 March 2020 for the exhibition High Rotation.

Moreton Bay Region Galleries and Museums borrowed 3 plates from Banks' Florilegium from 13 June to 6 September 2020 for the exhibition Artistic Endeavour Exhibition.

Artspace Mackay borrowed 4 collection items from John Oxley Library for the Tales of the Lyre Bird exhibition which ran from 2 September 2022 to 27 November 2022.

Copies of McWhirters catalogues on display at Museum of Brisbane.

Museum of Brisbane borrowed 4 John Oxley Library collection items for their award winning The Storytellers exhibition which ran from 3 April 2020 – 23 January 2022.
