FIVE MILE RADIUS: Waste Terrazzo — is an innovative concrete surface formed entirely from Australian construction and demolition waste. By hacking into the city's construction cycle, Five Mile Radius has created Australia’s only concrete surface made entirely from waste. Production of concrete accounts for over eight per cent of worldwide carbon emissions, it is the second most consumed resource in the world, after water. We need to use every drop!
Using the workshop facilities at State Library's The Edge, Five Mile Radius will lead a two-part hands-on course where you will design and make a small Waste Terrazzo artefact of your own to take home. You'll be guided through a condensed version of Five Mile Radius’ process — creating moulds, adding smashed construction materials, pouring concrete, grinding, polishing and sealing — to make your own piece.
This is a two-part workshop running on Sunday 14 and 21 March.
This event is part of the Asia Pacific Architecture Festival, an initiative of Architecture Media and State Library of Queensland.
