Portrait of an Artist is back for 2022 with three events this year profiling artists who feature in the James C Sourris AM Collection.
The first artist profiled in this event series for 2022 is the iconic, Joe Furlonger. Joe was born in Cairns and grew up in Samford, Brisbane, where he now lives and works. He is regarded as one of Australia’s most respected landscape painters, known for his use of hand-made acrylic paints and reused canvases. His works are very physical, with large swathes of paint, usually a mix of figurative and abstraction
Joe's artistic career has spanned five decades, and although he is a highly regarded landscape artist, he has been an Archibald Prize finalist nine times. His work has won awards, is held by every major state and national gallery and will be the subject of a new exhibition, Horizons showing at the Queensland Art Gallery from August 2022 to January 2023.
Join us for this special evening as we learn more about Joe's life, work and inspiration. This Portrait of an Artist event will include a viewing of Joe's artist interview as part of the James C. Sourris AM artist interviews series, and a discussion followed by a Q&A with the artist.
