We kick off the 2021 Game Changers series featuring an artist whose artworks, influence and impact are on a grand scale. Not only has CJ Hendry flipped the art world formula on its head, she has changed our perception of how creatives operate as entrepreneurs in business and enterprise.
Returning to her hometown of Brisbane from New York, CJ will appear at State Library of Queensland in a conversation with Emeritus Professor Suzi Derbyshire that is guaranteed to be challenging, frank and inspiring.

About CJ Hendry
CJ Hendry is currently one of the world’s most disruptive contemporary artists. Hendry is known for hyper-realistic, large-scale renderings of luxury objects and, more recently. Rorschach inkblots and intricate flower petals using a self-developed scribbling technique. She has used Instagram to launch and grow her art-based business and profile. CJ Hendry is known for her unconventional way of doing business, spontaneously surprising followers with ‘Copyright Infringement’ city wide treasure hunts, artwork fire sales, and experimental solo exhibitions including one in Australia in May 2021.
About Emeritus Professor Suzi Derbyshire
Emeritus Professor Suzi Derbyshire, who has 25 years’ experience in higher education both in the UK and Australia, is the recipient of several teaching excellence awards in recognition of her work in fashion education and academic leadership. She began her career as a womenswear designer before moving on to become a course director at the London College of Fashion. She migrated to Australia in 2002 to become the inaugural Head of Fashion within the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT. In 2011 Professor Derbyshire was appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) at QUT and served in that role through to her retirement in November 2019.
