Indigenising architectural education in Australia has occurred haphazardly, either as an extension of academic interest, social conscience or opportunistically through participation with Indigenous communities. The 21st century seems to be rather late to start formalising the process of institutional support and developing a more strategic approach to Indigenising architectural education. What impact will Indigenising architectural education have on students and the profession? Given both the student body and Indigenous Australians are increasingly more culturally diverse, how will these challenges be tackled? How will the success of these initiatives in architectural education be measured?
Carroll Go-Sam, Dyirbal from north Queensland and architectural educator at the University of Queensland, will talk with an all-Indigenous panel of academics, educators and practitioners to discuss what shape the transformation of architectural education will take into the future and what the architectural education model has been to date.
