Architecture in Miniature - Skate Parks
We’re flipping the idea of our Queensland Architecture in Miniature series and focusing on the outdoors and 3D printing! Revert to childhood or grab a mate and join us for our Skate Park version across three sessions.
Inspired by Queensland skate parks, you will work with 3D printed moulds and plaster to build your base skate bowl and be provided with all the tools to decorate and design your own skate park.
During this workshop series you will learn about 3D scanning apps and how to use them to capture objects and scenery to create digital scans that can be used in a variety of ways, including developing 3D models. We'll take you through 3D modelling along with an introduction into 3D printing, all materials and access to equipment included.
You will also get inspired by the history of skateboarding in Queensland, looking through the research of State Library Fellow, Dr Indigo Willing. You can also join the conversation with Indigo on the first day of the workshop, from 1pm.
- 9 - 12.30 pm Saturday 27 June (State of Sk8 talk from 1pm)
- 1 - 5 pm Saturday 11 July
- 1 - 5 pm Saturday 25 July
Key outcomes of this program;
- Learn how to use 3D scanning mobile apps (using the Edge iPads or own devices) to capture objects and environments
- Learn how to 3D model basic geometry, edit pre-existing or scanned models to create 3D models and 3D print them for your own skate park
- Learn how to create a silicone mould and cast in plaster to create your own skate bowl to decorate
- Take home your own Queensland Miniature Skate Park
Please note this workshop is not for children, as it is an adult learning structured program. Over 16s can attend. We recommend you attend all sessions, as each one builds on the previous one. No special skills are required, just intermediate computer knowledge. Bring your creativity, ideas, and enthusiasm to each fortnightly workshop!
