State Library and FIRST® Australia have partnered to provide a second round of this popular Grant which is now open to Queensland public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres to deliver robotics workshops for young people aged 9 – 16 using LEGO® Mindstorms Kits.

What you’ll get
If you are successful in receiving a grant, you will receive:

  • A LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robot, challenge mat, and assorted Lego

  • Free registration for your team at the Queensland FIRST LEGO League Robotics Tournament in November

  • Entry to one full day of training in one of 2 Queensland metropolitan locations - facilitated by FIRST® Australia

  • $2000 from State Library of Queensland towards costs associated with attendance at the one-day training, and implementation of workshops and community events.

Your commitment

  • You will be required to send at least one library representative to the FIRST LEGO League group training session

  • You will be required to provide weekly workshops to a group of up to 10 young people using the LEGO® Mindstorms kit. The group will learn to build and program a robot, learning about science and engineering in a fun and play-based setting. At the end of the program you will run a community event to showcase achievements.

  • All Queensland public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres are eligible to apply. Councils that received the grant in 2016 must guarantee that the Kit and Team Registration will be used by a library branch that has not previously been involved with the program.
