Wilston Railway Estate, 1901. John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland

This real estate map from 1901 advertises 197 allotments of land for sale at the Wilston Railway Station Estate, located in the Brisbane suburb of Wilston. The allotments were situated on Vale Street, Heather Street, Olney Street, Ruth Street, Stain Street, Mars Street, Abuklea Street, Wilston Street (now Lamont Road) and an unnamed road (Kedron Brook Road). There is a discrepancy between the map and newspaper advertisements for the sale, which report 200 allotments being available.

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.

"The beautiful high allotments are situated in the immediate neighbourhood of Wilston Railway Station, within a few minutes' walk of the Bowen Bridge tram line, being only three-quarters of a mile from the famous Byrne Estate". (The Telegraph, January 12, 1901, p.15)

A public auction was to be held at the ground on the afternoon of December 15, 1883. The results of the sale were published in the Brisbane Courier newspaper.

"Messrs. Isles, Love, and Co. report a successful sale of the first section of the above estate, on the ground, on Saturday afternoon. The land is described as subdivisions of part of portion 264, parish of Enoggera, and is situated on the town slopes of Wilston Hill. There was a fairly large concourse of buyers, and the competition for some of the picked sites was keen. The best locations sold at from £150 to £210 per acre, and some gullies and lowlying broken lands were sold at a nominal value. Eighty allotments out of a total of 194 were sold, for £687 15s or an all-round average of good and bad land, at about £86 per acre." (Brisbane Courier, March 4, 1901, p.4)
