William Charles BROWN, 2nd Light Horse Regiment.
William Brown embarked from Sydney on board HMAT Kyarra with the 29th Reinforcements for the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, 3 September 1917. Not long after arriving in Egypt he was admitted to the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital suffering from severe headaches where he was diagnosed with Malaria. He was discharged 4 weeks later and moved to a rest camp at Port Said.
Trooper Brown finally joined his unit in the field in January 1918 and served for 7 months with 'A Squadron' until his health once again deteriorated. He was admitted to hospital in Palestine, then Kantara when the symptoms of Malaria returned.
William Brown never recovered his full strength and after being readmitted to No 24 Stationery Hospital, Kantara in November 1918 he succumbed to the effects of malignant Malaria and Pneumonia. News of his death was received by his parents on armistice day, 11 November 1918.
His gravestone is inscribed "In memory of the dearly loved son of Mr & Mrs Brown, Teebar, Queensland".
