Hi there, Krystin here from the Queensland Library Foundation. 

Last week we showcased Preservation Services and the works that our donors support. This week we turn the spotlight to the Reading and Writing team.

Through the support of donations, grants and sponsorships, the Foundation assists Reading and Writing to deliver the Queensland Literary Awards and black&write! Editing and Writing Project.  

The Queensland Library Foundation is proud to champion these two important programs. COVID-19 has impacted the livelihood of many writers and creators, which makes supporting these two important programs even more essential to sustain Australian literature.

The Queensland Literary Awards offers in excess of $220,000 in prizes for outstanding works by Australian writers, illustrators and creators. This includes the $25,000 Queensland Premier’s Award for a work of State Significance which highlights a uniquely Queensland story. 

Foundation donors support the Glendower Award for an Emerging Queensland Writer and one of three Writers Fellowships to help boost a mid-career author. Grants, sponsorships and government funding support the other categories.

Another favourite projects of mine is black&write!

black&write! is the only national writing and editing program offering training pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander editors to work in Australian book publishing, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers to be published. The program does this by providing unique learning opportunities for up-and-coming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders editors through editor internships and Writing Fellowships at State Library.
