White Gloves Tour - Mount Isa

By JOL Admin | 23 November 2009

Mount Isa city was the latest place to host our 75th anniversary white gloves tour.

On display at the Mount Isa City Library were treasures significant to and from Queensland in general as well as a number of items of local interest. These included a set of photographs ca. 1929 taken by Jeffery Mills, a 1935 Mount Isa Photograph album and two 1960s tourist brochures. Of course there were also items relating to Mount Isa Mines - 1923 Mount Isa Mines Limited Prospectus, order of proceedings for the official opening of the K57 shaft and No 2 concentrator, 6 September, 1966 and a 1924 photograph album. Historical material relating to the region from the Mount Isa City Library's collection was on display also.

Coinciding with the tour was a conservation clinic held by State Library conservator, Lydia Egunnike. Lydia discussed how to correctly care for items such as books, documents, maps, old photographs and films at home and also provided one-on-one consultations in caring for personal treasures and offered advice on how to maximise their longevity.

Thanks to people of Mount Isa for their interest and participation in these events and to those who shared their stories. A special thanks to Sandra and staff from the Mount Isa City Library for their great hospitality.
