Waterview Estate, North Booval, 1920 (Map of the Week)

State Library of Queensland has an extensive collection of historical maps of Queensland, some of which have been digitised and can be viewed online.

This real estate map from 1920 advertises 40 allotments of land for sale at the Waterview Estate in the Ipswich suburb of North Booval. The allotments were situated along Sydney Street (now Soudan Street); Lulu Street (now Slack Street), Cory Street (now Stanley Street) and Booval Station Road (Now North Station Road). The map also shows existing residences surrounding Waterview Estate and lists their owners. These residences include - Mr Armstrong, Mr Hardie, Mr Owens, Mr Steele, Mr W.Favey, Mr Burrum, Mr Preston, Mr Anderson, Mrs Johns, Mr Jacobs on Caithness Street and Mr Penkins, Mr Dalton, Mr Guard and Mrs Cooney on Booval Station Road. .

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Ipswich newspaper, The Queensland Times.

"40 choice building sites, on one of which is a nice bungalow residence, occupying that beautiful ridge above the Parkinson Estate, to the north of the Booval Station". (Queensland Times, February 14, 1920).

A public auction was held at the site on the afternoon of February 28, 1920. The results of the auction on that day does not appear to have been published in The Queensland Times.
