Virginia, Nundah Hill Estate, 1928 (Map of the Week)

By Myles Sinnamon, Project Coordinator, State Library of Queensland | 16 February 2016

State Library of Queensland has an extensive collection of historical maps of Queensland, some of which have been digitised and can be viewed online.

This real estate map from February 1928 is advertising 18 allotments of land for sale at the Nundah Hill Estate in Virginia, a northern suburb of Brisbane. An auction was held on site on February 18. The allotments were spread over parts of Maddocks Street, Templeton Street and Rose Street (now called Hopkins Street). The estate was situated close to Sandgate Road.

Advertisements published in the Brisbane Courier and The Telegraph newspapers highlighted the features of the estate, including public transportation  - "Splendid regular and continous motor bus service, recognised to be one of the best services in the city. Handy to Northgate Junction and Virginia Railway Station".
