Since 2008, State Library of Queensland has been recording short videos featuring the stories of Queenslanders from a wide range of backgrounds. Here are some recent examples of digital stories made available to view via our One Search catalogue and Youtube.
Queenland Railways and Significant Resources
In this 12 minute video renowned Queensland historian Gregory Cope discusses the unique story of how railways in Queensland were proposed and developed, beginning as single rail lines that were eventually connected in the 1920s, playing a major role in the development of the State. Greg also explains the significance of research materials at John Oxley Library and how to use Notes on Queensland Railways by John D. Kerr, a rich compilation of rail history from the 1860s through the 1970s. Other significant resources at the John Oxley Library include photographs, reports, newsletters and ephemera.
Rocking Horse Records
Brisbane's iconic Rocking Horse Records, which has been catering to the musical tastes of Queenslanders since 1975. In this 4 minute video founder Warwick Vere looks back at the history of Rocking Horse. An extended 30 minute oral history with Warwick Vere can also be viewed via our One Search catalogue.
Joskeleigh: A place to call home
Joskeleigh, a small coastal rural locality on the Capricorn Coast, is home to a number of Australian South Sea Islander families. This 7 minute digital story highlighting family stories about growing up in Joskeleigh was filmed as part of our exhibition Plantation Voices.
Trevor Berill
This 8 minute digital story looks at ways in which Queensland homeowners can adopt renewable and sustainable energy alternatives in their houses and in other areas of their lives. The home of Trevor Berrill, an award winning private consultant in sustainable energy system design, education and training, serves as an example. Trevor Berrill has worked in both renewable energy and energy efficiency for 40 years, including system design and installation, research and development, technical training, public education and policy. Sallyanne Atkinson
This digital story with Sallyanne Atkinson covers her career in local government and role as Brisbane's first and only female Lord Mayor. An extended 76 minute oral history can also be viewed via our One Search catalogue.
Sir Llew Edwards

Red Cross Society in Queensland during the First World War
The Australian Branch of the British Red Cross Society began on 13 August 1914 at Government House, Melbourne, nine days after the outbreak of the First World War. The Queensland Division was inaugurated a day later, at a meeting at the Town Hall, Brisbane.
Time Off
Time Off magazine, a free weekly music magazine which began on campus at the University of Queensland in 1979. Sean Sennett edited/published Brisbane's Time Off magazine for most of its history, taking it from 16 pages to 72 pages. Response to 10 Year Anniversary to Apology
This 37 minute video was recorded at Cairns City Library on the 10th anniversary of the Apology to Australia's Indigenous Peoples. Interviewees were asked to consider the questions: Where were you when the apology was made? What did it mean to you? What has changed since the apology?
Chad Morgan
Legendary Queensland country music singer and entertainer Chad Morgan discusses his career in this digital story. Chad is known as the 'Sheik of Scrubby Creek', after one of his most popular creations. You can watch the full 54 minute interview with Chad Morgan via State Library's One Search catalogue.
