Sherwood Junction Estate, [Corinda and Sherwood], 1883 (Map of the Week)

This real estate map from 1883 advertises land for sale at the Sherwood Junction Estate, now part of the Brisbane suburbs of Corinda and Sherwood. The allotments were situated along Hilda Street, Kathleen Street, Arthur Street (now Ruthven Street), Alfred Street (now Harrowby Street) and five unnamed roads (now Dewar Terrace, Quarry Road, Primrose Street, Oxley Road and Clewley Street).

Extensive publicity for the Sherwood Junction Estate was published in Brisbane newspapers prior to the auction date, which was set for 29 October 1883.

"The land is beautifully undulating, and rises gradually to a grand elevation, which commands a series of views over the whole of the Oxley and surrounding districts. These views are really charming, and although neither Moreton Bay nor Brisbane can be seen from any portion of the land, yet the outlook is so varied and so exceedingly beautiful that everyone who sees the place exclaims - "I'd no idea there was anything so beautiful in this neighbourhood."" Find your Corinda or Sherwood house in the Frank and Eunice Corley collection

From the 1960s to the 1970s, Frank and Eunice Corley drove the suburban streets of Queensland in their pink Cadillac, taking photographs of houses and selling them to homeowners.
