School Estate, Salisbury, 1921 (Map of the Week)

This real estate map from 1921 advertises 75 allotments of land for sale at the School Estate, located in the Brisbane suburb of Salisbury. The allotments were situated along Henson Road, School Street (now Ainger Street), Salisbury Road (now Lillian Avenue), Morris Street (now Aird Street) and two unnamed roads (Cripps Street and Ainsworth Street).

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.

"This estate adjoins the state school is on splendid elevation, and within ten minutes' walk of the station." (The Telegraph, 11 May 1921, p.12)

From the 1960s to the 1970s, Frank and Eunice Corley drove the suburban streets of Queensland in their pink Cadillac, taking photographs of houses and selling them to homeowners. A database containing over 61,000 photographs can now be searched and viewed online. There are 1,323 photographs for the suburb of Salisbury.
