Play your part in Queensland Child Protection Week 5 - 11 September

By Young People and Families | 2 September 2021

Queensland Child Protection Week 2021 encourages families, governments, and communities to do their part to ensure children have what they need to keep them safe and well to thrive and be healthy. What family wouldn't want that for their children!

This week is designed to raise the profile of all issues connected with child protection, including child abuse prevention, treatment, research, education, service provision and support for children, young people and families

Families help build a strong community

You can play your part in helping children thrive.

  • Play with your children. It can be as simple as reading with them, or kicking a ball in the park. Playing with children helps build positive relationships in your family, and strengthens your connection with your child.
  • Spend time with children and the young people in your life. Let them know their ideas and opinions are important by listening to what they have to say.
  • Create opportunities for your family to spend time together.
  • Get involved in your community. Joining groups such as for sporting activities will help you and your children have fun and meet people.
  • Be a positive role model. Children and young people learn from the people they spend time with, so make your influence count!

Your local library is an ideal location to:

  • find information and referral information for the services you need
  • spend time with your children and connect socially
  • take your family to play and have fun at free events and activities for children and families
  • find cultural and recreational events to help build connections between families and young people
  • hear community leaders speak at events to help families learn and grow together and strengthen community bonds
  • grow your parenting skills and find opportunities for support, early literacy skill development and connect with other families
  • attend community services and events for isolated families at outreach programs
  • attend a youth space for genuine participation about issues that affect them
  • have your say about your library service, and let your council know how the library is meeting the needs of children in your community
