State Library of Queensland has an extensive collection of historical maps of Queensland, some of which have been digitised and can be viewed online.

Noble Estate, , Brisbane, 1886. John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland

This real estate map from 1886 advertises 392 allotments of land for sale at the Noble Estate, located today in the Brisbane suburb of Clayfield. The allotments were situated on Sandgate Road, Noble Street, Eliza Street, Ann Street (now Gellibrand Street), John Street (now Wongara Street) and an unnamed road (now Junction Road). Niquet and John Streets featured on this map no longer exist.

Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.

"The Noble Estate - an estate which, for position, beauty, material advantages, and liberality of terms, takes the premier place among the suburban estates which have been offered this season to the public... The Estate has the peculiar advantage of being within three minutes' walk of two railway stations - the Eagle Farm Junction and the Sandgate road station on the Racecourse Branch - while it is only a short and pleasant drive to the metropolis by the main road, or along the bank of the beautiful Brisbane River, and to the sea-side." (The Telegraph, January 4, 1886)

A public auction was held at the ground on the afternoon of January 9, 1886. The auction also included a free luncheon. The results of the sale were published in the The Telegraph newspaper.

"Messrs R.D. Graham and Son report a most successful sale of the Noble Estate on Saturday last. The attendance was very numerous, and the bidding spirited from first to last : 178 allotments sold for £4,625, being an average price per acre of £208. The highest price obtained for a 20-perch lot was £102, thus realising £816 per acre, and the frontages ruled from £45 to £65 per lot. The continuation of the sale is advertised in our columns for Saturday next at the Albert Hall, Adelaide Street, at half-past 2." (The Telegraph, January 11, 1886)
