Our Night by the Fire talks are one of my favourite events in kuril dhagun because they're casual and we always have amazing, inspiring speakers. It's an event where I can sit back, enjoy the glow of the camp fire, listen, learn and share. This art of storytelling has been practiced and passed down through generations of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders.
This year kuril dhagun has changed the format of the event so instead of monthly talks, we have a series of speakers that respond to a topic then conclude in a forum style event. The current topic is Storytelling. We have had guest speakers Samuel Wagan Watson (poet) and Paula Nazarski (theatre) present already this year. A Night by the Fire - Music with Kaylah Truth
Kaylah Truth is a Brisbane-based hip hop artist who is gaining momentum in the music world. She launched her debut single in late 2013 and is poised for a long and deadly career.

FORUM: The evolution of storytelling: written lies or spoken truth
Oral history is the oldest form of sharing knowledge and culture, but in our rapidly changing world has this voice been silenced?
Join our esteemed panel of storytellers for a conversation about the changing role of storytelling in Indigenous Australia, discussing the validity of oral history versus written history, the relevance of modern storytelling, and questioning who our stories really serve.
