Memories from a Forgotten People, Queensland Cultural Centre Cross Precinct Program 2013.

To mark this significant anniversary, the Queensland Cultural Centre will host an exciting array of events as part of a program entitled Memories from a Forgotten People:  150 years of Australian South Sea Islander Contributions to Queensland.  This program will take place between June and December 2013.  In mounting this project, the Queensland Art Gallery l Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Museum and State Library of Queensland are aiming to raise awareness about this important yet often hidden history and the unique culture of Australian South Sea Islanders.  In doing so, we would like to present our collections as important repositories of Australian South Sea Islander history and culture.  We seek to make these collections accessible during this anniversary year and acknowledge the significance of engaging the Australian South Sea Islander community with these materials as part of an ongoing dialogue.
