Many Songs, Many Stories

By Administrator | 11 July 2013

As we know, Naidoc week is here, and although it's nearing its end for the year we're glad to be continuing through the rest of July with our series of free Sunday films celebrating our Indigenous musical history, and the many different voices and journeys that can be found all around us.

Harold Blair, a truly unique figure in Australian cultural history, is our subject this weekend, his life and music, with their focus on peace and harmony acting as a flipside for the sound and fury of last week's artists Us Mob and No Fixed Address in their ground breaking feature Wrong Side of the Road. We continue the month with Kev Carmody and the documentary From Little Things Big Things Grow, exploring Kev's unprecedented work ethic, humour and insight, as well as our crowd-pleaser sing along Bran Nue Day. In a special screening, we'll be repeating Harold, Wrong Side, and From Little Things during the day on Wednesday 31st July if you're around. Full details of our film program can be found here: /whats-on/events/sliqflicks.

It's a wonderful month at SLiQFlicks, and the opportunity to interact with our Live! music program, Deadly Brothers, and Naidoc events is a reminder of how privileged we are to be in a vibrant, varied forward looking cultural precinct. Hope to see you all out at the movies!
