Ipswich and District Roll of Honour W.W. I
Many communities have published or are in the process of researching commemorative volumes through which we can remember those who served. The very act of documenting the lives, contributions and sacrifice of these service men and women puts real meaning to the words, "Lest we forget".
The Ipswich and District Roll of Honour is
dedicated to the memory of the men of Ipswich who went forth, during the Great War of 1914 - 1918, to serve in the armed forces of the nation and in particular to those men who are commemorated on the honour stones of Ipswich who sacrificed their lives serving their King and Country.

A search of State Library's One Search catalogue and a browse along the shelves in the John Oxley Library revealed a number of publications which have been produced in recent years.

Places like Ravenswood, Charters Towers, Inglewood, Harrisville, Napranum/Weipa, Kilcoy, Beaudesert, Maryborough, Buderum and Southport, Proserpine, Esk, Maroochy Shire, Gladstone, Inglewood, Allora, Indooroopilly and Wallumbilla. Here are just a few more:
Mackay's Own: A biographical register of the men from Mackay and District who died in the Great War of 1914-1918 by Glen Hall
Mackay's Own is a compilation of 349 brief biographies of men who were born, educated, employed, or lived in the Mackay district, or had their name listed on a war memorial from the Mackay district. Photographs of the men are included where available. The colour patches for the units which they served in are also included plus a gold "A" superimposed to identify service at Gallipoli in 1915 where appropriate.
Some compilations are being published online. Take a look at the Every Man Remembered database which covers the South Burnett Region and gives South Burnett residents the opportunity to honour family members who died during the First World War. The work has been primarily undertaken by Robyn Peterson and Daun Clapperton who both have a strong attachment to Nanango and the South Burnett.

The Adopt A Digger project on the Sunshine Coast aims to create a database which honours the First World War men and women from the of the region. It includes Army, Navy, Air force and nurses and the settlers of the Beerburrum Soldier Settlement. The database includes the service history plus a brief personal history.
Keen researcher Paul Cobb from Gloucestershire, U.K. has researched the 559 names on the Honour Board located in the Toowoomba Railway Station. The Publication is available on State Library of Queensland One Search Catalogue: Toowoomba Railway Roll of Honour Board 1914-1919. Paul invites readers to take this work and refine it further as it is not intended to be a comprehensive account but a collation of the basic details of the men listed.
The Banyo boys 1914-1918: biographies of the men from the Banyo District who served in the Great War (Including a short history of the Banyo Memorial School of Arts Hall) by Saadia Thomson Dwyer is also through State Library of Queensland's catalogue.
Boys from the Bush: Juandah District
Another publication I have come across is from a little place called Juandah near Roma in Queensland. Joy has researched the 46 soldiers from her part of Queensland and produced Boys from the bush: Juandah district.
The Gundiah Gazette has been publishing the personal stories of men whose names appear on the Honour Rolls in the Gundiah and Tiaro districts near Maryborough in Queensland. the Bauple Museum has been collating the stories of these men as they are researched.
Publications such as these become a lasting legacy for our community.
