Happy World Health Day!

By Anne Reddacliff, Librarian | 7 April 2021

The theme of World Health Day 2021 is “Let’s build a fairer, healthier world for everyone”. World Health Day is celebrated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 7 April every year. With the recent lock down in the Greater Brisbane Area and discussion of access to vaccines for COVID-19, a healthier world is on the agenda for everyone.

This World Health Day we’re going to share with you three free eresources you can use with State Library of Queensland membership that help to create a fairer society and access to health information.

1. Gale Health and Wellness: Gale Health and Wellness has information about health conditions from Acne to Zika virus. You can read journal articles, online magazines and even watch exercise videos! It’s your health hub for reliable information about all kinds of diseases and conditions as well as how to exercise with care.

2. ProQuest Central: ProQuest Central will give you access to journal articles about health conditions such as heart disease, dementia and stroke. It also contains news articles and videos. You can limit to ‘peer reviewed’ content if you are looking for medical journals and evidence-based studies. Search ProQuest Central for academic literature or articles that might have appeared in the news.

3. PressReader: We’re including PressReader here because health isn’t just about your physical health. It’s about your mental health as well. PressReader has over 7,000 newspapers and magazines to keep you entertained with everything from craft to fitness. It really is your one stop inspiration shop and can help lift your mood with a virtual flick through an aesthetic magazine like Home Beautiful. PressReader helps keep you a little healthier and happier by giving your mind a break.

So that’s how your State Library membership can help you this World Health Day to get access to health information and maintain good health, even in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic. Goal 3 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is Good Health and Wellbeing, something we strive to help you with here at State Library so happy World Health Day from us to you!
