Guest blog #2: Word on the Street writing group

By Administrator | 25 October 2019

Since 2015, State Library of Queensland has partnered with Upbeat Arts (formerly School of Hard Knocks) to host the Word on the Street creative writing program. The group meets weekly at The Edge Mezzanine. Word on the Street is a creative writing course that helps participants find their voice on the page. Upbeat Arts delivers tailored arts and cultural programs, for artists and educators to work with marginalised communities, promoting social inclusion, positive mental health and overall well-being.

Meet the participants – Robbie Martin

I love words and this piece is the culmination of that love. (Cue hearts and Mohawk music!) I am pretty great – I think of course! You may judge me as you may! I have been attending Upbeat Arts for two years. I get to show off, marvel at the work of others and my best memories of it is any class where I crack a joke and make people laugh.

Is there anything greater than nothing at all?

Far be it to long for life hither do pause.

Centuries take merely a minute to pass.

While a minute watches the centennial march.

Yesterday shall be great, where tomorrow was not.

Phantasmagoria betwixt moonlight and song, deafened by thunder of clash to come.

Beast of Calamity will again so rise, so cometh in tow the grand cosmic demise.
