Glenore Grove State School 50 year jubilee film (1956)

A recent addition to our digitised audiovisual collection is a three minute silent film from 1956 capturing moments of the Golden Jubilee of the Glenore Grove State School in the Lockyer Valley Region.

According to the publication, Glenore Grove State School 75th Jubilee published in 1981, the 50th anniversary was celebrated on 27 February 1956 with over one thousand people in attendance, including twenty-two of the school's first students.

A sit-down lunch was served at the nearby Glenore Grove Hall, after which a presentation was held in the school grounds. The footage shows a number of special guests on the dais including future Queensland Premier Sir Gordon Chalk, who was at that time the State member for Lockyer; Donald Cameron, Federal Minister of Health and member for Oxley and Bill Nitz, Chairman of the Jubilee Committee.

The film also shows the cutting of the Jubilee cake by Mrs May Brimblecombe (nee Reid) who was one of the first students at the school. May's father, Adam Reid was the first headmaster at the school.
