Fun Palace is about community creating and making things together. The events are held in venues where arts and sciences, crafts, technologies, fun and learning, are nurtured so SLQ was an obvious fit. Fun Palaces run all over the world and it is an ongoing campaign for culture at the heart of every community, with participation led by, for and with local people. On the weekend of 1/2 October 2016 there were over 290 Fun Palaces in nine nations and engaged approximately 80-90,000 people.

Last Saturday, the kuril dhagun  team contributed to the annual SLQ Fun Palace program. As part of our involvement we incorporated a patchwork cloak workshop into the day’s events whereby children and their families could come tour and experience our current Art of the Skins exhibition on display on Level 1 and Level 2 of the Library then contribute to a collaborative artwork. The aim of the tour was to provide inspiration to the children to come up with their own designs and stories to contribute to the making of their very own cloak, which is now on display in kuril dhagun.

Everyone who participated on the day thoroughly enjoyed the activity and I am sure each person walked away proud of their creations. It was fulfilling to see many different people willingly engage with a Indigenous culture, all of whom undoubtedly walked away from the workshops enriched with new knowledge. The cloak is now on display in kuril dhagun until 20 Nov.
