How can “engineering” a piece of paper make it stronger or make it fly? How strong can it be? How far will it fly? How much risk are you willing to take and how good is your aim?
Find out at State Library's Fun Palace where you can meet Engibear, Engilina and the Bearbot and try a range of engineering activities with them.
Engibear author Andrew King is an engineer who thinks that STEAM education is important for our sustainable future. ‘Allowing children to create – their imagination, skills and perseverance are wonderful’, says Andrew.
‘I also believe that the creative link between the arts and the sciences is vital to innovation. Engibear and friends were created as friendly faces to introduce engineering to children. Our activities are designed to allow children to explore the fascinating world of engineering.'
Andrew says working with children and spreading the message about the importance of creativity in STEAM is a big drawcard for participating in State Library’s Fun Palace this weekend.
